I am having the same issue since the patch 1.3.53. Maybe the newest patch causes the problem with that specific area, maybe not because I didn't go back there in an earlier patch. The earliest saves are from today (after the patch), during the quest "Family Reckoning". Also, I validated the steam file integrity, no luck there. So far, I tried coming from the badlands greater map to the ruins outside and using the major gate, and going to the outside from inside.
I already completed the "Gem quest: The monastery" but I didn't subsequently complete the "Shadow of the defiler" so this could be a reason for it not to load properly. Thus, I am trying to complete "Runs in the family" and "Shadow of the defiler" quests both located in the ruins outside the fortress of the shield map. The last mission I completed is the "Family Reckoning" quest and I am trying to complete the side missions before I move on to the main missions.

Currently, I am running the last steam version (1.3.53 - Public) of the game without mods and it crashes while loading the outer area of the Fortress of the shield map.
